Just a few weeks ago, Carol went to the hospital for kidney stones. During that visit, doctors discovered an aortic aneurysm close to her heart. While the kidney stones were painful, we’re thankful they revealed this much more serious issue. On Tuesday, September 2, Carol underwent major open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus to repair the aneurysm.

During the operation, doctors also discovered a hole in her heart, which they repaired at the same time. This made the surgery longer and more intensive than initially planned. After surgery, Carol lost feeling on the right side of her body, and while preparing her for a scan, she experienced a seizure. This has set back her recovery a significant amount and added greatly to her pain level. Doctors are unsure if a stroke may have occurred before the seizure.

Carol is currently in the ICU at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, and her stay has been extended until she is strong enough to move out of intensive care. Her road to recovery could be long, but we’re praying for strength, healing, and a quick recovery.

Carol is one of the most generous people I know. As a close friend of Brandon and his family, I’ve seen firsthand how giving she is... not only with her time, but also with their finances when someone is in need. She is not only an incredible mom to all of her children, but an even more incredible grandma to her three grandsons and her granddaughter. It’s hard to see them go through this, and it’s very sad to see someone as incredible as Carol experiencing pain the way she is.

While their family is asking for continued prayer, there is also a very real financial burden. Jerry is off work to be by Carol’s side, and expenses are piling up... from medical bills to hotel costs while Jerry stays near the hospital.

Brandon and the family have mentioned that many people have been asking how they can help.
