ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN STORY
Praying this finds all my family and friends in good health and enjoying the goodness of God's Blessings and Grace.
In my humanness this is one of the most difficult requests I’ve ever had to make, if you know me, you know I have always tried to be the servant, guess we never get over the pride thing. It seems in all God‘s goodness, we still suffer in this worldly place that is our temporary home.
The reason for writing this letter is Heidi and I are in a particularly demanding time. I haven’t posted much about it on Facebook but had a few signaling posts about my current health conditions. With all that’s going on with me physically, I can say I am in a really Good Spiritual place right now, as my only hope is coming from God as a miracle. I understand He doesn’t owe me anything, and I will follow Him through this journey giving Him praise no matter what His Will may be.
With that said, I have been struggling with a lot of weakness, stiffening of muscles and particularly a lot of balance issues in the last year. I Fall often. My condition is progressing very rapidly. My left side is generally affected, and not very useful, which led them to believe I had a stroke. After much testing, MRI’S and meeting with the neurological team, they are saying that I did have a couple of heart incidents, (which could be expected due to the stiffness of the heart muscles) and probably had Parkinson’s. They added, “I had a particularly difficult and interesting case,” and after the team of neurologists reviewed my studies and testing further, they concluded that I do not have Parkinson’s, or did not have a stroke, but I have a much rarer Neurological Degenerative Disorder, probably PSP. I will see a specialist in this field in June. I will attach a link if you desire to research my condition to understand more of my situation. Unlike Parkinson’s, this condition comes with an expiration date. I probably have been suffering from this for about 5 years being mid-diagnosed as anxiety, and have 1 to 2 more years if the condition is correctly diagnosed. My condition has continually worsened, and my brain won’t function to use a cane or walker, so I am soon bound to a wheelchair. Palliative care is in the process of arranging that for me now.
What does this all come down to, I need assistance at home for my daily activities. I fall a lot and I’m unable to get up due to the lack of strength and the inability to use my left side. Even in my current state, I am so blessed in so many ways, especially that I have a wife that loves me like Jesus and will stick with and care for me till the end. I feel sad as this has been particularly hard on her, we have so much love to share. We are still in the situation with Heidi‘s visa which has not yet been approved so she cannot go and get a good-paying job in the medical field. Being blessed, she sometimes still gets to work with a lady from the church cleaning houses occasionally to make a little extra money to compensate for living on SSI. Sadly to say, I need her home with me probably all the time. Currently, I am a captive to the house due to having steps, front and back and my instability issues causing me to probably fall if I attempt them on my own. Lol
I guess here is my current situation. We are fortunate to have this house, which also has a small guest house attached to it. It is a wonderful space and when completed, it should be able to bring in enough income to compensate for Heidi not having to work right now so she could be here to care for me. By the Grace of God, this project is nearing completion.
I need to get the wheelchair ramps and some adaptations for my house to make it functional and safe. The construction of the rental space has exhausted all available resources. I have found a local deck builder that is willing to help for not much more than the cost of materials and expenses. The scope of the projects are: minimally; a 7’ ramp to get me from the house to the porch. Then a 20’ ramp from the porch to the drive. Phase 2 would allow me to at least get out the back door, it would include an expansion of the back landing allowing me to get out and have a spot to rest next to the house. The best solution would be adding a small raised deck area so I could get away from the house in an emergency or use the BBQ or Smoker while watching people in the back pool area. You all know how I love to cook! The added accessibility issues that will be needed I'm not certain of the costs as of yet.
As I said, this is a very difficult letter for me to have to write, but God made it clear, sometimes we need to be in humility to stay in His Will and fight. With all this said, I ask that everyone be prayerful for my situation and see if you are led to be blessed to be a blessing in my time of need. Understand everyone always has our love and prayers, nothing that happens can change that! I know in these times we all have difficulty making ends meet. We cherish your love and prayers as all of you have influenced my life in a very special way and I am so appreciative of your support.
Prayers and Blessings!
Greg & Heidi
