Alexander Hines Eagle Scout Project For Blessed Sacrament

I am Alexander Hines, an Eagle Scout candidate from Boy Scout Troop 777. I am doing my Eagle Scout project with The Church Of The Blessed Sacrament on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. An Eagle Scout Project is a Service Project for a nonprofit organization designed to benefit the community.

I chose to help Blessed Sacrament because of their generosity to both Troop 777 and the Upper West Side community. Since I joined Scouting 8 years ago, Blessed Sacrament has allowed our troop to use its facilities for weekly meetings and other events such as the pancake breakfast fundraiser. One of many ways Blessed Sacrament helps the community is by running a soup kitchen every weekend to help feed the hungry.

Blessed Sacrament is looking to develop more dynamic methods for communicating church news, schedule changes, and updates to its members. My project aims to help the church solve this challenge by developing an app, an electronic bulletin, and an electronic donation system.

A group of volunteers and I will develop an app for both Apple and Android phones with several sections. A church news section with church events and updates; a church calendar section with events, mass times, and schedules; and an information section with the church history, church sponsors, and more.

We will also develop an electronic bulletin to be located in the church vestibule. This bulletin will scroll through church mass times, upcoming events, schedule changes, and other information the church would like to display.

This project will simplify communications between the church and its members, creating an easy-to-access user-friendly platform.

In addition to the app and bulletin, the church requested we set up an online donation box with QR codes because many people no longer carry cash. This will create a simpler way for the congregation to donate to the church.

For my project, I will need to raise $2,260. These donations will go towards a laptop to run the bulletin software and apps, app development software, and an Apple developer license. Any donations exceeding the goal will be donated to Blessed Sacrament.
