UPDATE June 15th

Tonight we got devastating news. The vet informed us that while Blaze was healing from his chest surgery as expected -today they discovered a serious perforation in his bowels- there was major infection , along with fluid in his lungs.. The vet said the odds were stacked too high and we needed to consider letting him go… We said goodbye to our big boy just past midnight.. He heard our voices and we saw his eyes light up to know we were there… And then he was at rest. Words can’t describe how grateful we are to everyone who pulled with us in hope for Blaze’s recovery… We fund raised half of the expenses - I have shut the GoFundMe off… if there are any of you who would like your money back due to this heartbreaking unexpected outcome email me at [email redacted] - we will do our best to reimburse you… Once again THANK YOU…. We are feeling a bit overwhelmed and beyond heartbroken….  

Help save our Blaze!!! A week ago Blaze was stomped on the chest during a moose attack. We did our best to dress his two hoof puncture wounds... a few days ago while dressing his wounds we discovered the wound went through to his chest cavity. We sent him on an emergency medivac via Alaska Airlines. He arrived at the vet today- We were informed that Blaze needs 3 days in the hospital and a full flush of his chest cavity and a round of heavy antibiotics.. The vet is beyond impressed his disposition is alert and hopeful, She is confident with immediate care HE WILL RECOVER... The estimate for his care is 8,000 upwards to 13,000 depending on how he responds to treatment.

I am putting a plea out to our friends and supporters to help us save our Bear Dog... 5 years ago he came into our family a care-free, intelligent and determined little guy.. We purchased him from a breeder after much research on the best dogs for bear management and protection. Blaze has lived up to his breeds reputation- The bears stay out of camp when he is on duty! He alerts us to moose and wolves as well... Blaze can pick up danger from a mile away and he loves his job.. Camp is a safe place for our kids to play because of his hard work and sacrifice. We can't hardly stand to see him suffer- when I put him on the plane to go to Bethel- He stared into my eyes like he didn't want to stop- Bear dogs are smart and don't need us- In their minds we need them- Not today.. His intelligence came forward and he had that look in his eyes.. "I need you.. This time I need your help.." To some people he's just a dog... To us he's family... And even more than that .. a canine hero!
