Blayke Ann Cesario - NICU Stay
Blayke Ann Cesario was born on 8/19/21 at 10:03 am. 5 lbs 8 oz, with red hair! She was 35 weeks and 5 days so about 3 weeks early. When she was born, the doctors noticed a few warning signs of a GI Tract condition and took her to the NICU right away. In the NICU they discovered that her condition would require multiple surgeries so they transferred her to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. We discovered she has a condition called Esophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal Fistula (EA/TEF). Meaning her esophagus did not fully developed and stopped short of the stomach, so the lower esophagus connected to the trachea. There are a few other conditions that are linked to this that she also has. She was born without a rectum, has a spinal condition (both will require additional surgeries) and has a dual thumb on her right hand and an 'L' Thumb on her left (abnormal joints). She will most likely be in the NICU for a month or two and we (Zac, Brie and Cole) are staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.
Over the last few weeks, Brie was being monitored for high amniotic fluid which is a warning sign of this condition. This condition can not be identified before birth and the cause is unknown.
We've received and overwhelming response already on our Meal Train site, so any funds raised here will be applied to medical bills and additional expenses we will incur the next 2 years as this will be a long process with multiple surgeries and potential hospital stays.
