Update 5/4/2023 from Jessica Vasquez (Blanca's husband's, Antonio's, Cousin):

A very special thank you to everyone who donated to Blanca's Medical Care. Unfortunately, Blanca passed away on Saturday, April 29th. We are devastated by this but we are relieved that she is no longer suffering. The funds that were collected are going to pay for her emergency stay at the hospital and we are so thankful to all of you. You made sure we were able to do everything within the doctors' powers to ensure that Blanca received the best care. While we will never understand why this happened, we are so incredibly lucky to have known and loved the vibrant, beautiful, intelligent, go-getter that was Blanca Valbuena.

The family and friends of Blanca have created this fundraiser.

Blanca recently suffered a basilar artery stroke while visiting her sweet god daughter. Blanca's best friend reacted quickly and immediately brought her to the hospital within an hour of symptoms presenting. Blood thinners did not clear the clot and an emergency thromboectomy was done to remove the largest clot. Smaller clots remained and another more potent blood thinner was given. This led Blanca to have a small hemmorrhage.

As of now, Blanca has not woken up after her surgery. The brain needs some time to heal and it will be some time before we will know more. Basilar artery strokes are very rare, and are even rarer for someone as young as Blanca. The doctors are tirelessly trying to figure out what caused the stroke and what her quality of life will be going forward.

At this time, we do not know how long Blanca will have to stay in the surgical ICU or if she will wake up. What we do know is that her medical care will be very costly and we want to do everything that we can to give Blanca a fighting chance.

La familia y amigos de Blanca han creado esta recaudación de fondos.

Blanca recientemente sufrió un derrame cerebral en la arteria basilar mientras visitaba a su dulce ahijada. La mejor amiga de Blanca reaccionó rápidamente e inmediatamente la llevó al hospital una hora después de que se presentaran los síntomas. Los anticoagulantes no eliminaron el coágulo y se realizó una tromboectomía de emergencia para eliminar el coágulo más grande. Quedaron coágulos más pequeños y se administró otro anticoagulante más potente. Esto llevó a Blanca a tener una pequeña hemorragia.

Hasta el momento, Blanca no ha despertado después de su operación. El cerebro necesita algo de tiempo para sanar y pasará algún tiempo antes de que sepamos más. Los accidentes cerebrovasculares de la arteria basilar son muy raros, y son aún más raros para alguien tan joven como Blanca. Los médicos están tratando incansablemente de averiguar qué causó el derrame cerebral y cuál será su calidad de vida.

En este momento, no sabemos cuánto tiempo tendrá que permanecer Blanca en la UCI quirúrgica o si despertará. Lo que sí sabemos es que su atención médica será muy costosa y queremos hacer todo lo posible para darle a Blanca una oportunidad de luchar.

Blanca sofreu recentemente um derrame na artéria basilar enquanto visitava sua doce afilhada. A melhor amiga de Blanca reagiu rapidamente e imediatamente a levou ao hospital uma hora após o aparecimento dos sintomas. Os diluentes de sangue não limparam o coágulo e uma tromboectomia de emergência foi feita para remover o maior coágulo. Coágulos menores permaneceram e outro anticoagulante mais potente foi administrado. Isso levou Blanca a ter uma pequena hemorragia.

Até agora, Blanca não acordou após a cirurgia. O cérebro precisa de algum tempo para se curar e levará algum tempo até que saibamos mais. Os derrames da artéria basilar são muito raros e ainda mais raros para alguém tão jovem quanto Blanca. Os médicos estão tentando incansavelmente descobrir o que causou o derrame e qual será sua qualidade de vida.

No momento, não sabemos quanto tempo Blanca terá que ficar na UTI cirúrgica ou se acordará. O que sabemos é que os cuidados médicos dela serão muito caros e queremos fazer tudo o que pudermos para dar uma chance de luta a Blanca.

The goal of this fundraiser is to help my cousin Blanca's family pay for the medical expenses related to this stroke. The hospital bills alone are mounting at $2500 per day. We will be sending the funds to their family account to spend as needed in this crisis.
