My Best Friend Needs Us

This is one of the hardest things I’ve had to write, but also one of the most important.

My best friend Blanca is going through the unimaginable. Just a few months ago, on April 8th, 2025, she lost her father, the kind of heartbreak no one is ever truly prepared for. And as if that weren’t enough, barely a month later, in May 2025, she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

My best friend is facing the fight of their life, battling cancer, with a strength and grace that leaves me in awe. Watching someone you love go through something so painful, so life-altering, is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Yet here we are, standing beside them, doing everything we can to lift them up.

Blanca and I have been best friends since high school, and if you’re lucky enough to know her, you already know she’s the type of friend who never leaves your side. Most of her friends today are still those same people from high school, because Blanca doesn’t just make friends she makes lifelong connections. Her loyalty, her strength, her humor, they are unforgettable. If you know my best friend, you know they are a light in this world kind, giving, always the first to show up for others. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

As you can imagine, the journey through treatment is physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting. Every test, every appointment, every medication adds up. She has just started her treatment journey, and even with insurance, her out-of-pocket costs are already over $7,000 and that’s just the beginning. It’s going to be a long, challenging road ahead, and she shouldn’t have to face it alone.
