Hello Family and Friends. Christina and I have received an update about Blake’s eyes. As you may or may not know, Blake's left retina is not fully developed. Blake has been wearing eye glasses and contacts since the age of 4. We have seen slight improvement over the past 5 years but his left eye is not improving at the speed we were hoping for. This has not stopped Blake from being a happy and active little boy. Blake plays basketball about 4-5 times a week, he loves being outdoors, making crafts, BUGGING his dad, and playing games with his mom, all while being the best big brother. However, his eye condition has effected his schooling. We recently visited his new eye specialist in Arizona where Blake was tested to see if he qualified for Vision Therapy, which his Dr. thought would be a great idea for the development of his left eye Retina. Blake was diagnosed with Occular Motor Dysfunction of Saccadic and Pursuit Eye Movements, Refractive Amblyopia, and Suppression of Binocular Vision. When we were receiving the results of his tests the Dr. explained that Blake's right eye is now weakening because of him not using his left eye. We learned that Blake's eye movements are at an age level of a 5-6 year old’s speed, and Blake will be 9 on November 19th, so you can imagine his struggle with many everyday thingshe does that requires his eyes to work alot. Blake's eyes do not move as fast as his brain does which means he looses focus very easily on his page that he is reading or writing. We also learned that Blake's eyes become tiresome from being overused and they both will get blurry at times, this can last up to 2 hours at a time. Finding all of this out just broke Christina's and my heart, but now we can understand why he struggles so much in school. As a result of this, Blake was approved for a minimum of 40 sessions of Vision Therapy. This is all being done through an Eye Specialist so you can image how expensive this all will be. Thankfully the insurance deems Blake's contacts and regular optometry appointments as medically necessary and covered at 100% however neither medical or vision insurance covers his Vision Therapy sessions and at home equipment he needs. Christina and I have both recently relocated to Arizona and due to COVID 19 our finances are a little tight. We are asking on behalf of our son Blake that if you could please help out with whatever you can. This money will be going directly to Blake's Eye Therapy sessions and for materials he will need for home therapy as well. Please keep us in your prayers and Thank you for your Contributions.
