Hello, my name is Blake Robinson, a native of Valdosta, Georgia, a young black man, a proud military brat, a first-generation college graduate, and a proud Democrat. For the past few years, I have worked across Georgia to engage young people and build our political power. From non-partisan organizing as a college student at Georgia Southern to serving today as chair of the Young Democrats of Georgia's Rural Caucus, I have worked to organize young people.
Now, I am ready to take what I've learned as an organizer and as a leader to the next level. I am ready to serve as the Young Democrats of America(YDA) Southern Vice President and I need your support.
The YDA is where we begin the process of rebuilding and reinventing the Democratic Party. To do this, we must pursue three key goals:
- Build: We must build the power of our state affiliates by building up not only the resources we offer but also the infrastructure we have. Infrastructure has to be developed if we are to keep our democracy.
- Engage: Across the South, our biggest issue is engagement. We must communicate and engage across state lines. From Florida in the east to Oklahoma in the west and to our territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, we have to work together to bring young people into the Democratic Community. We have to be in community with young people across the south. By engaging with our state affiliates and their chapters, we can directly connect young democrats chapters directly with YDA.
- Maintain: The South is not a place where you can drop in during an election cycle and leave. We must maintain our organizing efforts 365 days a year to achieve real, lasting change. We need to maintain infrastructure beyond an election cycle by investing in young democrats. We need to refocus our energies on relational organizing which works.
I am asking for your support because I can't do this alone. Your investment supports my campaign to not only represent young people from across the south on a national stage but also to represent the great state of Georiga. Home to former President Jimmy Carter, John Lewis, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I believe no state in the South better exemplifies what is possible for Democrats if we empower young people.
