Help Blake Receive Brain Cancer Treatment

Blake (47), father to Levi (9) and Max (7), husband to Laura, discovered he had a brain tumour at the beginning of June 2025.

Blake had been feeling a little unlike himself for the past few months but nothing too alarming. It wasn’t until he started to experience headaches in the morning that he went to the Tofino hospital to get checked out. Miraculously Blake was sent for a CT scan the same day in Port Alberni. The doctors discovered a large tumour in his frontal lobe. Blake was sent to the Royal Jubilee hospital in Victoria and they were able to remove the majority of the tumour while leaving Blake’s brain intact.

The biopsy came back and the malignant tumour is called an Astrocytoma. The doctors figure that Blake had it for a few years and then the last few months it grew extensively. The surgeon removed a large portion of the tumour but was unable to get all of it because of what it was attached to. The next phase of Blake’s journey will begin soon and will be in the form of radiation and chemo therapy.

The last few weeks has been a lot to process for everyone but we can celebrate the fact that Blake is still here with us. He has a challenging road ahead but he’s up for a fight. The best way to support him moving forward is to be positive for him and his family.

The family has not asked for a go-fund-me, but we know that they have so many friends and acquaintances who would love to help in whatever way they can. We would love Blake to be able to explore all of his treatment options including international treatment if there’s a chance he may receive more progressive care than in Canada.

Regardless of where Blake receives treatment, we know that there will be significant travel, accommodation and medical expenses incurred. This fund will hopefully allow the family to make the medical decisions that they need to while alleviating some financial stress.

Any funds that are not used directly for medical care or support will be donated to brain cancer research.
