Blake in Wisconsin
Donation protected
My 17-year-old son Blake has been living with Autism, and severe OCD for his entire life. I have taken him to Drs.in North Carolina, New York City, and Upstate New York in the last 16 years looking to get him help. Unfortunately, Child Psychiatric Facilities are currently overwhelmed. I have had him on many waiting lists, only to be told he is too intelligent for them to handle, and they have nothing to offer him in the way of treatment..
He has been committed in a number of facilities, but they release him after 2 weeks without treatment and send him home. Needless to say, schooling has been difficult at best, but when he does manage to attend, Blake shows he is a very intelligent boy, who achieves high marks. He accomplishes these things even as he deals with his disabilities.
Now after years of being turned down, and months and months spent on waiting lists, we have gotten him a bed in a world class facility! Unfortunately, it is in Wisconsin, 1,000 miles from my home in Utica New York, and he will need to remain there for at least six months.
My employers have been very accommodating, allowing me to work remotely one week a month when I get to visit Blake. However, the financial burden of living in a motel room for a week every month, and the costs of driving are beyond my capabilities as a single mom.
Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated by both myself, and Blake.
