Blaire was born with sirenomelia. Another name for sirenomelia is mermaid syndrome. It affects her lower half of her body. Blaire’s legs are fused together down to her heels. The lower half of her legs are rotated backwards. She is a real life mermaid. She has a full life ahead of her with quite a bit of obstacles along the way. She will need to have surgeries in order to achieve a better quality of life. All of her surgeries will take place at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. Texas Children’s Hospital has all of the specialists Blaire will need. Blaire’s first surgery will be to separate her legs and amputate at the knee. The doctors have recommended amputation because it will give her a better chance of walking with prosthetics down the road. She will have other surgeries to follow. Those surgeries are unknown at this time. Blaire is truly a miracle.
