Turning tragedy into triumph — support the Blair Holt Scholarship Fund NFP, Inc. On May 10, 2007, the life of 16-year-old Blair Holt was tragically cut short when he shielded a friend during a senseless act of gun violence while riding a CTA bus in Chicago. Blair’s courage and selflessness saved a life, but his own was taken far too soon. To honor Blair’s memory and ensure his legacy of bravery and leadership lives on, his parents—Annette Nance-Holt and Ronald Holt—together with the African American Firefighters League of Chicago, established the Blair Holt Scholarship Fund NFP, Inc. From its inception, the scholarship was nurtured and guided at Percy L. Julian High School with a hands-on approach and personal involvement from Kimberly Saunders, head of the Journalism and TV department, along with a dedicated group of staff and students. Together, they also created the annual Peace Week—a 4–5 day event of outreach and service held every May that continues to inspire students to stand against violence and build stronger communities. Since 2008, the fund has awarded annual scholarships to deserving students at Percy L. Julian High School—Blair’s school—helping young men and women pursue higher education. Each year, at least 2–4 graduating seniors who have met the requirements are selected by the Blair Holt Scholarship Fund Committee to receive awards. ✨ For example, the Class of 2025 at Percy L. Julian High School saw two outstanding seniors honored as recipients: • Kamya Priest, now enrolled at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) • Deshawn Garner, attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Scholarships typically range from $1,000–$2,500, and recipients are chosen based on academics, community service, and a commitment to positive change. To date, dozens of students have received support that has opened doors to college and beyond. The Blair Holt Scholarship Fund NFP, Inc. is more than financial assistance—it is a symbol of hope, resilience, and the belief that our young people deserve the chance to fulfill their potential. Each year, students are reminded of Blair’s sacrifice and challenged to take steps toward ending violence in their communities. But we cannot do this without you. Your generosity helps us continue awarding scholarships, expanding opportunities, and keeping Blair’s name and heroic spirit alive for generations to come. Please join us in honoring Blair’s legacy by donating today. Together, we can turn tragedy into triumph and empower the next generation of leaders. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. ➡️ Donate here: GoFund.Me/81D2A539 Thank you for helping us keep Blair’s light shining. ✨ Special acknowledgment to Kimberly Saunders and the dedicated staff and students of Percy L. Julian High School, whose vision, service, and creation of Peace Week have been instrumental in sustaining this mission from the very beginning.
