First things first, I want to thank you for your continued contribution to my brother’s health and recovery.
As you have now heard, my brother Blaine is in for the fight for his life. Back in June Blaine was struck with an on-slot of excruciating pain in his leg. Now for those of you who know my brother, know that Blaine does not complain. Standing 6’4” and only 19 years old, he has always been healthier than an OX, as my grandma always would say. Blaine and I spent most of our lives in both the Lake Forest area and Huntington Beach. Blaine attended El Toro High School and spent every other weekend with our dad in Huntington Beach. After high school, Blaine started spending most of his time in Los Angeles and surrounding areas as he started working in construction with our dad. Blaine has always enjoyed being active and has been fit and athletic, but that would all change.
It all started with a little pain in his left leg. At first, what felt like an inside bruise turned into a throbbing pain, growing daily until he was hardly able to walk. Shortly after the pain started, Blaine went to the doctor, who at that point chalked it up to growing pains or some type of strain from the construction work he was doing. The doctor prescribed him an anti-inflamatory, told him to take it easy and sent him on his way. During the next 8 weeks of constant and debilitating pain, we kept waiting for it to get better. But with him otherwise, being a healthy 19-year-old boy, we thought it was nothing, must have just strained it working. But each day, things got worse, my mother and brother decided it was finally time for him to go back to the doctor. So off to Urgent Care they went.
Immediately the doctor realized this was no pulled muscle. He ordered X-Rays, and after reviewing them sent him to a specialist. It was then, an MRI, blood work and a number of other tests were ordered. Our biggest fear came true, Blaine's physician gave us the diagnoses...it would be high-grade Osteosarcoma, a serious rare type of bone cancer.
As you can imagine this came as life-shattering news for Blaine and our family. Blaine would now, not only would have to undergo chemo and a combination of prescription drugs to fight his cancer and pain, but a large portion of his upper leg would have to be removed. The realization was starting to sink in for all of us. Blaine would have to face the fact that he may never again be able to do many of the things he loves! Snowboarding, skating, running, MMA and more, would be a thing of the past, and he would have to live with that for the rest of his life.
Update: As of January 14th, Blaine has now undergone surgery, is going through physical therapy to regain strength and mobility of his leg, and has started his aggressive 29 week Chemotherapy treatment. But after losing a large portion of his leg in the fight to stop his cancer, his body needs constant rest. For the next 6-9 months of treatment, he will be incapable of work. If you know my brother, you will know, Blaine is not a lazy person. He has always been a hard worker and at 19 was paying the majority of his bills on his own. This is why I am asking you, to stand with me in the support of my brother. I know each of us faces challenges each day, but this time it is more then we can handle on our own. So we are asking you, to help Blaine. In helping him, you will know that you have played a critical part in Blaine’s recovery and the victory of this disease. Your money will go towards the day to day expenses, like treatment cost, physical therapy, healthy food, and monthly bills. As part of Blaine’s recovery, my mother has been forced into taking time off of work to assist in Blaine’s care and recovery. As you can imagine this has put further stress on us financially, making it impossible to care for Blaine and to pay for just the necessities.
Blaine and my family are fighting to win, but we need your help!
My whole life I have watched Blaine put other’s needs before his own, and for the first time in his life, he is the one in need. For this and many other reasons I am reaching out for help, so please, please, please, stand with us by donating to my brother’s fight! And when you do, I promise you this, Blaine will fight and we will fight along his side to conquer his Cancer!
We know your money is hard-earned, so when you donate you will be pleased to know, Blaine insists on donating a percentage of your generous donation to support other children in need. Blaine will donate 10% of all the money he receives to the children of St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to your generous contribution.
God Bless you!
