Ayankofa Eco-Village

Many of us grow a vegetable garden or keep chickens as a hobby.  For the people of the Central Region in Ghana, a viable and sustaining food source is difficult to come by; many of the people in this region are fortunate if they get a little rice to eat once a day.  Black Star Education Foundation's goal is to change that through hands-on educational programs.

In the fall of 2015, Bryan Flecker, president of Black Star Education Foundation, traveled to the Central Region of Ghana and implemented a poultry program at one of the local schools in this region with great success.  The students built a secure chicken coop and learned the techniques of caring for over 200 chickens that are now producing eggs for the school children's lunch.

From August - November 2017, Bryan Flecker and Black Star Education Foundation will work with local families in the village to construct a chicken coop to house at least 200 chickens, and plant multiple vegetable gardens to grow crops that thrive in the local environment. We will educate the people of the village, school children, and university students on how to raise and care for chickens so they will have a viable source of protein in the eggs and chicken. The garden will feature an eco-friendly design; utilizing the chicken manure as fertilizer and maintaining natural water collection and storage to provide needed water during the dry season.

As you can imagine, this Ayankofa eco-village project has immeasurable impact for the people of the Central Region of Ghana; these life skills can have a life-long impact.  In order to make this project a success, we need your support. Please make a donation for the needed supplies to change the lives of others as we empower and bring self-sufficiency and food security to those in need.
