Black Queer Comrade Needs Housing Stability
Donation protected
Hi Folks,
We’re crowdfunding for our comrade, Klover, who has faced relentless state violence and repression for her identities as a Black queer woman and for her activism. Klover lives in Brooklyn, NY.
In 2020, during a Black Lives Matter protest, Klover de-arrested a community member to protect them from being brutalized by police. For that act of care, and in retaliation for that act of courage, she was targeted by the NYPD. Multiple police vehicles followed her, not long after this incident, and nearly a dozen officers surrounded her with guns drawn and tasers pointed at her chest — their fingers on the triggers. She was denied a phone call in this initial detention and held in a cell for over 30 hours. She was kidnapped, sexually harassed, and criminalized for defending her people. Klover was then sentenced to six months at Rikers Island, a known death camp. Since her release, Klover has experienced ongoing housing insecurity. And despite the challenges, she has remained resilient. She has restored her backyard from a state of decay and cared for several dogs on her own.
To support our comrade, we are aiming to raise $70,000 to help Klover relocate from where she currently lives, and support her in reaching the stability to live without the threat of displacement hanging over her.
It is our responsibility to care for our neighbors. Please give what you can and share widely. Solidarity is not sympathy; it is material support and sacrifice. We will share updates on Klover's status periodically.
