We are pleased to announce the launch of the fourth edition of the Blackn[è]ss Fest, which will take place in Milan from November 8 to 10, 2024. This annual event is much more than just a cultural celebration: it is a crucial meeting point for celebrating and exploring the Afro-descendant experience. Through a rich program of activities, the festival aims to promote dialogue, art, and cultural exchange, offering a platform for diverse voices and innovative visions.
The theme of the 2024 edition is "Refusal," understood as an act of resistance and opposition to the dominant system. Freed from its negative connotation, it is re-examined and valued as a creative and transformative force. The festival will explore how refusal can be a powerful driver of social and cultural change and how it represents an act of self-determination and a fundamental propelling energy.
THE IMPACT (EN below)

In this context, refusal, beyond being a reaction to oppressive or unjust situations, becomes a dynamic force that fuels our actions and amplifies our messages. This edition of the festival will highlight the power of refusal as a means to deconstruct oppressed narratives and create authentic and powerful spaces for the expression of Afro-descendant communities. Through our program, we aim to demonstrate how anger and refusal can be transformed into tools for change and innovation.
During the three days of the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops, artistic performances, exhibitions, and discussion panels. Each activity is designed to explore new themes and perspectives related to Blackness and Afro-descendant experiences. We celebrate and recognize these cultures, building a bridge towards greater inclusion and understanding. The discussion sessions and workshops will be led by experts, artists, and thinkers who will offer unique and thought-provoking insights into how refusal and resistance can shape a more just and equitable future.
Organizing a festival of this scale requires considerable commitment in terms of resources and support. Our goal is to ensure fair compensation for all participants, including artists, technicians, moderators, and speakers, who are often underpaid or marginalized within the cultural sector. Our commitment is to create a festival that offers space for creativity and critical thinking, while also fully respecting the value of the work of everyone who contributes to the success of the event.
In fact, within the context of Blackn[è]ss Fest 2024, the theme of refusal also extends to our determination to oppose a system that often devalues and exploits cultural work. Paying every single person involved in the festival is an act of resistance against a culture that too often ignores the real value of the work done by artists, technicians, and professionals from racialized communities. Our commitment to ensuring fair compensation is a clear statement: creative and cultural work must be recognized and remunerated justly. This approach challenges systemic injustices and promotes positive change.
