Due to COVID-19 Kids Matter Movement is unable to host a backpack drive this year. As a way to still support the low-income communities in Ontario we are addressing systemic issues within the Canadian - Specifically Ontario education Curriculum. We are doing this by sending out customized book packages to students at the elementary and high school levels (grade 1 to 12).
These packages will include fiction, and non fiction books that focus on the black experience and black history.
This project is to bring awareness to the importance of incorporating Black Literacies into the lives of black youth. Representation goes along way by empowering black youth, building their self-esteem, and promoting healthy narratives about black experiences.
The money raised on GoFund me will Solely be used for ordering “black literacies” and for the cost of mailing the packages to youth and their families around Ontario.
