Blackland Prairie Restoration Phase Three

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Raghav Kalyanaraman. I am the founder of Eagles for Environment, a student-run organization that aims to restore the Blackland Prairie ecosystem in North Texas.

Today, less than 1% of the Blackland prairie remains. The WWF lists the Blackland Prairie lands as the most endangered ecosystem in North America. The Blackland Prairie supports over 300 species of plants and animals. The prairie’s tall grasses prevent soil erosion and enhance water infiltration. For that reason, the Blackland Prairie is also critical to our watershed.

Over the last two years, we restored 2 acres of prairie in Phase 1 of our project. We restored 3 acres in Phase 2. Now, we are pushing for 10 acres in Phase 3, which will begin this fall.

We restore by reintroducing native wildflowers and grasses to the meadows. Unfortunately, the seeds for restoration are costly. We need about $10k to purchase the seeds. Any donation helps.

We have received tremendous support from the community. Over 120 volunteers supported our projects and donated tools and money to make our restoration a reality. We received a grant for $1000 from UT- Austin's Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
