Black Girl’s Birthright Children’s Book Series

Black Girls Birthright series was birthed through a creative vision I had for my daughter. I wanted to create something for her and other young black girls that promoted positive self-identity, self-efficacy, and youth voice for children between the ages 2-7. I realized that there’s not enough books for young black girls that focus on these areas at such an early age. I am limiting the book titles as of now for copyright purposes but here’s the concept for book 1:
Book #1 Concept
To promote positive self-identity, self-awareness and acceptance by staying true to the core self.
To dismantle the structure of children being voiceless but instead having something to bring as well.
To promote adults supporting youth voice while allowing learning to take place for both youth and adults.
Cub and I are in the next phase of our childrens book series which we have announced to very few people. After calculating the costs for copyrights, illustrations, self-publishing, printing, and launch party we realized this will be more than we had initially saved for.
So far, we have an amazing illustrator who has been working on making our visions a reality. (I would share the characters but we are still making edits and revisions, so hang tight!) Due to time sensitive processing we hope to have the money raised by July 2019. My goal is to publish the series in my daughters name as a foundation for her future. First book release is for December 2019.
Cost Breakdown
Illustrations: $1,500 for the first three books
Copyright/Self-Publishing/Printing: $1,500
Book Signing/Release Party: $1,500
Marketing and Promotion: $500
Having the financial support from family and friends would help make Asiyah and I project a reality. As a single mother taking care of my daughter while paying my way through Graduate School it would be very helpful to have the support of the village. We been working on this project for the past year and it is finally coming together beautifully. We are grateful and thankful for your time and support.
the use of the term “we” refers to Cub and I.
