Hey everyone, my name is Bibi Hailu-Montag, I am enrolled at College of the Redwoods, in Eureka California for fall of 2021. I currently reside in Oakland but I spent my formative years in the beautiful woods of Northern California, and truthfully that is where my heart is. I was working prior to covid-19 but as the pandemic shutdown the country I was out of work. As a first generation east African black American, and member of the LGBTQ community, I have struggled to meet the demands of an ever-changing education system. I dream of studying psychology and literature. Since I was a little girl I knew I was meant to tell stories. I have published poetry, my heart and soul, as well as prose. Psychology asks questions about human behavior, and it is a cornerstone in understanding the mind, and implementing change begins with the mind. My love and passion for the literary arts inspired me to pursue a higher education. I am an activist for social and human rights, and it's long been time to create a space and inspire change at a grassroots level for women of all ages and backgrounds.
Because of past history of trauma at young age, I have been in therapy since I was thirteen. But even so, the last few years I've encountered many things I was not prepared for. I want to support girls like me that have so much inside them that needs to be nurtured. So many young talented females are overlooked because of their mental health state, just like I was. I can do something to change that, by educating myself to fight and overcome, to create a difference. Girls like me will finally be heard and their potential can be nurtured.
Now that my education goals are close I find myself with a few gaps to fill in, not the least of which is my financial situation. Although the last year has been hard and to be honest kind of grim, we have all found small moments of beauty. The pandemic was our cocoon, now it is time to tear out of our shells and fly toward. Please donate if you can so that I may fly toward my dream to make the world a tiny bit brighter.
The funds will help me pay for tuition and books as well as buying a car to move to Arcata and pay the first few months of rent and get to classes. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and anything you can donate will be GREATLY appreciated and put to important use. (:
