Hey there! My name is Philipa Brobbey. I am a Christian, Black, female entrepreneur who has an undeniable passion for hairdressing. I own Braidsgalore, a UK hairdressing & synthetic hair line company that provides a world class service for the everyday woman. We pride ourselves for being unique with our efficiency, affordability and innovation. These three components are a constant thread throughout the service and products that we provide. We are not exclusive, we are inclusive!
Every woman desires a high quality hairdressing service without paying agonising prices. So it is important to us that our price point and service are unbeatable. At Braidsgalore Ltd, we have a passion to create products and tools that guide and advance the knowledge and skill of the expert and novice. We currently have a product called “LightBraid No Stress, No Mess.” This is pre-stretched kanekelon braiding hair. However, future plans involve expanding our offerings to include other hair types e.g. crochet and faux locs and reaching more customers nationally and internationally.
Background
For the majority of my childhood and early adolescent years, my mother was incredibly ill. During this time, my father hired a personal professional hairstylist who was proficient with her hair texture. The happiness my mother experienced when her hair was done stuck with me, even after she passed into glory in August 2012. Two years later, I enrolled into The University of Portsmouth and as I was settled into the city, I soon recognised the lack of hairstylists that catered for Black and Asian women. After conducting my field research, it became clear that there was a demand for these services. One conversation in particular that further compelled to me to start, was learning that a student on campus was lead to the basement of a well-known hairdressing establishment, to do her hair due to her religious beliefs. I was disgusted to say the least. From that moment onwards, I embarked on the journey of hairdressing in my university dorm room. I saw the need for women to get their hair done and experience the same happiness and care that my mother had received. After leaving university and being successful with freelancing, I took the bold step of registering my company in September 2018.
The funds received will be used for:
- SPACE: With efficiency as a key component to Braidsgalore, it is imperative to move to a space that will be conducive and practical to handle the growing number of customers efficiently.
- MARKETING: An aim of Braidsgalore is to expand its current local services to a national reach and eventually international. The first step to achieving this, is to build a website and create adverts that will support our entry into these markets.
- RESEARCH & TESTING: With affordability and innovation as key components to Braidsgalore, testing prototypes for both our synthetic hair and tools range are necessary to provide quality to our customers.
What it would mean to us:
I DO THIS FOR YOU MY FELLOW SISTERS!
Braidsgalore is a company that strives to satisfy our customers and help them to be confident. Whether through our feed on Instagram or through booking an appointment, our heart is to serve you. This funding will allow us to continue in this lane of excellence for generations to come, as well as effect change in this industry. This is what motivates me to persevere in the midst of adversity and challenges faced as a small business owner.
However, I cannot achieve this alone, which is where you come in. I hope that in sharing my story and vision you have a desire to partner with Braidsgalore Ltd at this time. I ask that join me on this journey to greater heights. All donations and shares would be greatly appreciated.
