We’re Hasson and Fanerra Dupree and we are the owners of Black Nile Seafood & Soul Food located in Brooklyn, NY.
We have been in business for almost five years and have taken great pride in being an example of how hard work, determination, and devotion to one’s faith and community can be the foundation for a successful business.
We've been mentioned in Huff Post, Black Owned Brooklyn, Crain’s New York, Washington Post, Muslim Foodies, Thrillist NYC, & Courier Magazine. We've even competed on Food Network's Chopped, Guy's Grocery Games, and appeared on a Discovery+ series exploring the evolution of American Cuisine.
It's been a long but rewarding journey and we can't put into words how grateful we are to be one of the restaurants to make it through the pandemic in a city as competitive as Brooklyn, NY.
While we have long term goals of eventually owning the property our restaurant resides in, leasing is still the best option for us as of now.
So, after careful consideration of our cisrumstances, we’ve decided to relocate!
We’ve found a space that’s BIGGER... but not too big to where we lose the essence of the intimate family atmosphere Black Nile is known for.
It also has a backyard for customers to enjoy some of our famous Soul Food on a wood lined patio away from the busy Brooklyn streets.
We can’t wait for ya’ll to stop by and enjoy a meal at Black Nile 2.0.
So, Where's the Money Going?
Having Quality employees who love and appreciate our community as much as we do is a must. We have to make sure as we expand, our team is able to work in an environment they’re comfortable in and able to make an honest living. The funds will help us with bringing on more staff, reasonable pay increases, and meeting all health code requirements.
The new location is bigger and better, but the kitchen is NOT large enough for the irresistible dishes we plan to create. Fresh, quality food needs prep space and equipment to be able to maintain clean and functional production. The money will also be used to help pay for construction to expand the kitchen so our culinary team can work their magic.
