Help me change birth for Black women and babies

I am Ruth Blanding, a Doula, student midwife and holistic practitioner. I founded Deepest Roots: Birth and Wholistic Wellness in 2012.
I am the the mother of 5 amazing and beautiful children; Loki 16, Azure 13, Bodhi 10, Nia 6, and Cahira 4. I have served woman as a birth doula since 2009 and believe deeply in the sacredness of empowered birth.
It has always been my goal to bring back and practice birth work honoring the ancestral birth and wellness practices of my African/Black and Native American heritage. Having experienced the obstetrical system as a woman of color, I am called to this work and serve women as a Licensed Midwife. The health disparities for Black folks is startling.

I am enrolled in the Midwifery College of Utah I am blessed to be a part of lovely community of birth workers. Unfortunately, very few of them represent midwives of color. This is important for so many reasons. The first being that representation matters.

My tuition totals close to $25,000 (not including books or supplies). That is approximately $8,400 each trimester.
Together lets create a world with midwives who represent all folks!
