Black E.S.T.E.E.M. (Entrepreneurs, Scientists, Technicians, Engineers, Economists, Mathematicians) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing Black girls’ interest and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The scope of our work focuses on the advancement of Black girls throughout Ontario between the ages of 10-13 years old. We are a collective of Black women and girls who work with communities to create culturally relevant learning spaces that nurture Black girls’ curiosity, creativity, and imagination. We work with Black girls to deepen their self-confidence and re-imagine their presence in STEM fields as entrepreneurs and innovators. This initiative prepares Black girls not only to confidently enter STEM careers, but encourages them to construct futures where all Black girls reach their highest potential.

Through intentional education and research-based programming, our goal is to increase Black girls’ outlook on the realm of STEM possibilities in ways that expand their creative minds and imagination. In Ontario, Black women are underrepresented in the field of STEM therefore, Black E.S.T.E.E.M. encourages Black girls to engage in new experiences and provides opportunities that empower them to navigate the world as problem solvers. We work with Black girls to deepen their self-confidence and re-imagine their presence in STEM fields as entrepreneurs and innovators.

By encouraging Black girls to strengthen their STEM identities, we believe it will open future pathways for them to confidently enter the field of STEM. Black E.S.T.E.E.M.  provides safe and brave spaces for Black girls to build their capacity, enhance their voices, and impact their worldview beyond their local communities. Black E.S.T.E.E.M. aims to dismantle and disrupt the negative effects of the discriminatory projections directed at Black girls and continues to promote a positive self-concept. Participating girls are mentored into future STEM leaders and job creators for other Black girls within their communities and across the province.

As always, we thank you for your donation to help further our initiatives and greatly appreciate your continued support!
