When formerly incarcerated women come to Black Butterfly house, they have faced barriers to employment, housing, and lack of access to services and supportive relationships.
Black Butterfly’s goal is to provide interim housing and skills training to enable clients to become empowered and self-sufficient. Our clients are formerly incarcerated women and women in recovery facing barriers to entering society.

I’m Amber Brown, Life Coach and CEO of Black Butterfly Transitional Services. Through Black Butterfly House, we combat homelessness, mass incarceration, and substance abuse in Hennepin County, MN. Our female-only clientele, long-term transitional housing, and comprehensive empowerment programming makes us uniquely positioned to help women under our care.
Black Butterfly Transitional Services will significantly impact the community by providing short-term and long-term relief to women struggling through adverse situations, who are ready to focus on personal development and self-sufficiency.
Black Butterfly has partnered with Local Community Partners and over 20 volunteers have volunteered over 200 hours in support of our mission. We continuously seek partners and volunteers to help us expand our services and capacity.
Our first home is located in Crystal MN, and we have accepted our first clients. We are reaching out to the community to continue thriving with your support. We are looking for funding for the following:
Transportation- bus cards, tokens, cabs, etc...
Clothes for workforce
Winter gear
Food
Hygiene items
Hair Supplies
Identification- ID and Birth Certificate
Expungement Resources
Bedding
Exercise equipment
Training/Classes
Activities
Basic Household Essentials
