"I have nothing to fear. And here my story ends. My troubles are all over, and I am at home..." -Anna Sewell, Black Beauty
After raising money for the Humane Society after Hurricane Harvey with Harvey's Animal Helpers Lemonade Stand last year, I was introduced to a sanctuary in East Texas called Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch (The Fund For Animals partnered with Humane Society). The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch is an animal sanctuary in Murchison, Texas that was founded in 1979 by author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory. It is home to 800+ animals.
Alex loves running alongside the trucks on the ranch
These animals have different stories and backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common...they were fortunate to find this place and these people. It is home to characters like Lulu and Midge, chimps who were subjected to years of medical testing; two retired performing bears named Sammi and Tibor; Alex the tiger, an exotic pet who was abandoned in a cage with no food or water; and hundreds of other animals who were either neglected, abused, sick, and/or found themselves homeless.
For me, it was love at first sight. I connected with many of the animals there, but specifically Toby and Moby. Two horses, each with their own disabilities. Toby, has difficulty eating, which makes adoption almost impossible for him. Moby, has a genetic disorder that prevents him from growing hair making protection from weather and infection a challenge.
Toby painting a picture with watercolor paint.
Moby loves getting tender scratches due to his genetic skin condition, and requires special baths several times a week to prevent infection.
Splish splash taking a bath
Painting and decorating boxes for the tigers to enjoy in their sanctuary
The Artist, Midge, at work fingerpainting while sipping her favorite drink from a straw :)
When I met Toby (left) last year, he was friendless. This last visit, he was so proud to have a pal.
I love being around the staff and animals at Black Beauty ranch because I see and feel the love that exists there. This is where I want to work when I grow up. I am trying to raise money for sun shades for the equines, medical supplies, and new homes/habitats they're working on for the animals.
The goal last year for the United States Humane Society was $1000, but $3500 was raised. I’m hoping to exceed that amount this year for the Black Beauty Lemonade Stand, but any little bit will help!
Please help!!!
