From the Director, Carly Davis:
"Hello all! My name is Carly Davis. I am a senior at Temple University and completing my BA in Film and Media Arts. This fundraiser is for my senior thesis project, a script I wrote my sophomore year. As follows:
The “other woman” is not always the villain.
My short film Black and Mild is a coming-of-age drama about Cara, a restaurant server, who attends her holiday staff party to pursue her dreamy co-worker but is met with one obstacle: his girlfriend. This story is something that I have experienced while working in a restaurant and was written to process the grey area I felt I was in. Not only is there a lack of restaurant stories in film, but a lack of dimensionality within the “other woman” trope. With this film, I aim to add nuance to female characters and stop limiting them to good or bad.
We are asking for $2,400 to support our amazing cast and crew! All money will go towards housing, transportation, food, equipment rentals, and production design. This money would greatly benefit the artistic vision of my senior thesis and help production run as smoothly as possible!"
From the Producer, Daviana Cruz
Thank you all for visiting our page and donating to our film fund! I was so eager to help produce this project for Carly, not only as a dear friend, but as someone who believes in her work and talents. I've seen Carly's stories, with the help of our amazing cast and crew, come to life on the screen in ways we only imagined in our minds. With this final senior thesis, I am so excited to create a piece that is a genuine culmination of all we've done thus far. I am so proud of Carly for writing such a vulnerable story, and for bringing her tale to life with the help of our cast, crew, and even YOU! We can't thank you enough for your support, and we hope you love the finished product as much as we will!
See you at the finish line <3
