Xingonas in the Pit presents: The Second Annual "Black and Brown Punk Fest TX"
We (Daisy, Monica, Jazzmin and Bianca) are leaders of the San Antonio punk collective Xingonas in the Pit. After organizing Texas' first "Black and Brown Punk Fest" this past October, we are going BIGGER THAN EVER in 2019!
Inspired by Chicago’s “Or Does it Explode: Black, Brown & Indigenous Crew,” Oakland’s “The Universe is Lit,” and NYC’s “No Flowers for Yt Powers,” we are part of the DIY movement geared towards uniting punk artists of color… but in the South!
We need YOUR help to make this happen!
- Because we have several talented performers traveling to San Antonio, 100% of the fundraising (in addition to admission from the door) will cover the travel & performing fees of all of our musicians, our photographer, and our flyer artist.
- One of the goals of "Black and Brown Punk Fest TX" is to get artists of color PAID for their work as creators of culture.
-In the spirit of all things DIY, we are not corporate sponsored and rely entirely on the support and power of community - we humbly ask you to consider donating. REMEMBER ANY AMOUNT HELPS ($5, $10, $20+) & YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
So why is “Black and Brown Punk Fest TX” important?
- Because we as Texas punks of color are tired of hetero hyper-masculine white-centered music scenes that lack safety and inclusivity!
- Because we are not given credit for our contributions to punk! (& our work is culturally appropriated)
- Because in a time when the people in power are harming us, we need to build sustainable, creative communities where our voices & talents are heard and celebrated!

ABOUT I AM TX:
"On their last day of tour, a black punk band find themselves in awkward, surreal and life-threatening situations with an ignorant cast of characters."
ABOUT DEFLATED:
“After a long night out, Jamaica is forced to reevaluate her life choices. A small film about a large decision."
XINGONAS IN THE PIT is an all-ages San Antonio-based decolonial feminist punk collective aimed at creating a network of safe radical music spaces.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS:
∙ Daisy Salinas is a San Antonio-based Native Xicana feminist zinester (Muchacha Fanzine ), punk musician (Frijolera Riot ), fest curator, activist, and poet. She started the decolonial feminist punk collective "Xingonas in the Pit” with the purpose of promoting punk as an act of resistance and self-sufficiency for people of color. Her goal is to build safe spaces for artists of color to reclaim our identities, our art, and our collective liberation.
∙ Monica Skinner is a Korean American Austin native, who works primarily in festival production, audio engineering and event curating. Through all mediums of her work, she strives to advocate for marginalized folx, primarily through booking intersectional, radically centered events that put POC, LGBTQ+ folx and womxn to the front. You can follow her work at @hexinthecity , @misoshawty and @fembeat .
∙ Jazzmin Readeaux is from Houston, TX. He is in the band Ojos and is a dedicated mom and family person. Even though he works really hard at home, he does think this world should always be growing and improving. In order for this to happen, he thinks we must be part of the action. His life exists to make this world a better place for future generations. For Jazzmin, punk means freedom of expression but also empowerment for those marginalized people who seldom have a voice.
HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED:
∙ 100% of this fundraiser will go towards the travel & performing fees of our artist beneficiaries, the poster artist, and the photographer.
∙ Combining our GoFundMe Campaign and Event Admission Fee ($5-$10 sliding scale at door), our total fundraising goal is $3000 ($2000 via GoFundMe & $1000 via Admission Fee). The $3000 will be divided as follows: $225 for each musical act (12 acts total), $150 for poster artist fee, and $150 for photography services.
∙ All funds will be dispersed into my personal bank account (Daisy Salinas, festival curator). The GoFundMe donations $2000 with the Admission Fees $1000 (total: $3000) will be divided up the day after the event on September 1 2019. After dividing artist payments, I will personally pay each artist by transferring their payments via PayPal or Venmo.
