Currently Moloka'i Middle School is the only public intermediate level institution that is working towards bringing this learning opportunity to its students.
The students are deterimined to be stewards to the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage mission -- island wisdom, ocean connections and global lessons -- both here on Moloka'i (total rural population of about 7000 people) and Aotearoa.
At the same time, by following the path of Hokule'a and Hikianalia, the students will be accomplishing Moloka'i Middle School's mission "to challenge all individuals to achieve their personal best by providing rigorous, engaging instruction programs that develop 21st century skills and promote life-long learning and responsible citizenship." This journey can be described by an 'Olelo Noe'au, Hawaiian proverb, as "E kaupe aku no i ka hoe a ko mai." (Literal translation: put forward the paddle and draw it back.)
Our students are not only representing our school but also the State of Hawai'i and the Nation.
Fundraising efforts up until now have been at the grassroots level and we are so grateful to the local community for their support. But we can't make this dream come true on our own. We need your help. Any amount you can offer is most appreciated.
(Offline donations are also welcome! Kindly make your check out to Molokai Middle School and earmark it for the "Hawaiian Language Immersion Program - Gofundme".
