Help Eric Beat Cancer
Donation protected
This is my brother, Eric Barshinger. He’s 28, lives in Hawai’i, and has a thirst for adventure and life that was only satisfied by island life. As great as it sounds, things have abruptly turned south for Eric…
What was supposed to be a simple visit to the doctor for an abdominal discomfort turned into something far more devastating for him and our family… During Christmas week of this last year, easily described as the worst year in our lifetimes, Eric was given news that no one should ever have to hear.
Eric was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer, and without a liver transplant from a living donor he will not survive. While he waits for a liver to be donated, he will require treatment to contain the cancer in his liver.
Due to his rare and unique situation, his doctors say he will not be able to get a deceased donor’s liver on the liver donation list, so Eric must search for and find a living donor himself – someone willing to donate half of their liver. The good news is that a donor’s liver will grow back to its normal size in 8 weeks!
Eric had been working in the tourism industry in Hawai’i and has been out of work most of last year due to the pandemic. As not all transplant centers offer living donor transplants, he will be relocating back to Texas to be near family and near a transplant center that will perform this kind of transplant. Treatment will be costly.
We are raising money for Eric’s medical expenses, relocation expenses, and expenses needed for his donor. Whether you can help Eric financially or not, your liver might be the one to save Eric’s life. His only chance of survival depends on someone coming forward quickly to donate part of their liver.
Please consider saving Eric’s life by donating part of your liver.
Please Contact Us: To learn more about becoming a living donor, contact Donna (Eric’s mom) by using the Contact Button on this page or by emailing [email redacted].
You can save Eric’s life:
A living liver donor is someone who is willing to give half of their liver to Eric. The liver is the only organ that can regenerate itself. A donor’s liver regrows to full size in 8 weeks!
If we cannot find a living donor, Eric will be in treatment until he passes away, which will probably be in the next 1 to 2 years. The type of cancer he has is rare, especially for someone as young as him.
The living donor would incur no costs and their insurance would not be charged. The entire process for Eric and the donor would be through Eric’s insurance only and the contributions he receives.
Financial Support:
We are raising money for two reasons.
1. to assist the donor with their expenses including the costs for travel, accommodations, and time away from work, etc.
2. to assist Eric with relocation and medical bills
Prayer Requests:
Please keep Eric in your prayers.
1. Pray that Eric’s cancer doesn’t escape his liver
2. Pray that Eric gets approved for a transplant
3. Pray that a donor comes forward
Help us spread the word:
At the end of the day, Eric is a son, a grandson, a brother, a nephew, an uncle, and a friend to many. It may seem small to help just one person, but in reality what’s really saved is a family. A person would singlehandedly rescue a family from mourning the loss of Eric.
Please share this with everyone you know, and on every social media account that you can. We must find a donor without any help from the hospital. We appreciate any financial help you can give.
Thank you,
Eric’s Family
