Hello and good day to everyone!
Bit of an awkward format, but here we go ~~~
If you don't know me, firstly thank you for stumbling upon my fundraiser. I'm Camilo, a 26 year old transmasculine individual lacking the means to live my life in a bearable manner. By which I mean I have some serious breast action going on that I would absolutely love to get off my chest.
Gynecomastia is the condition of 'man-boobs' affecting cis men. Treatments can include hormones, medicine, and a surgery that costs £3500-£5500 (in the UK, according to NHS website).
For trans guys with unwanted breast tissue, the process is far more drawn out and expensive: 70 month waitlist to be seen by a specialist at a GIC (there only 7 in the whole of the UK); further wait times to discuss and obtain the clinical diagnosis of "gender dysphoria" (yes, it is still classed by the DSM-V as a mental health condition, similar to how homosexuality used to be); then a further wait OR a £10k fee for surgery (or both).
In the UK, the legislation is so restrictive that without the official diagnosis of "gender dysphoria", no surgeon is allowed to operate on a trans patient for trans needs, even though the same surgeries for cis patients exist and are performed without such dramatics!
70 months is 6 years.
I'm so desperate to start living. I cannot wait this long.
"One day I will wake up as myself" I promise my soul, hoping to ease my mind. "Make a plan, be brave, and ask for help" I chime in response. This ongoing dialogue has been turning through my mind for years, and finally I have found the kindness to open myself up to help.
I had wished so deeply that by Summer 2025 I'd be free, yet my cowardice delayed my fundraising developments, even writing and re-writing this so many more times than necessary. But I have to be brave, because I think now that I deserve to live, ESPECIALLY given the government's increasing attacks on trans rights.
My route through their cleverly designed labyrinth is to take matters into my own hands, and into the hands of a surgeon in Madrid. In Spain they offer surgeries on an informed consent basis, meaning I need no special diagnosis to receive the healthcare I'm after. The waitlist there is around 3 months, and surgery costs are lower. I'm looking at €5900 (£4900) for the surgery, plus two weeks accommodation (no flying immediately after surgery), plus the flights for myself and a required helper (estimated total £7000).
Any extra funds I make will be donated to the next trans fundraiser. We have to support each other as the state isn't gonna! The community we build for each other is the most beautiful thing, and the kindness I have now granted myself is because of the kindness I see us all show each other.
Please help grant me healthcare! Even a share helps :)
Thank you so much for your time, I swear I'll do everything in my power to make it worthwhile.
