To all our friends, family and well wishers,
Our dear friend Anna Mwajuma over the past year and a half has been through hell. Starting around August 2020, Anna started having severe headaches that were initially managed by tylenol and ibuprofen. In January 2021, with the headaches not resolving, Anna was referred to a specialist. An MRI revealed that she, in fact, had a brain lesion. Luckily, the brain tumor was benign. Her doctors revealed that the cause her brain lesion was a hormonal imbalance. The treatment plan was for her neurosurgeon to continue monitoring the tumor, to make sure that she didn’t develop new or worsening symptoms.
In December 2021 , Anna noticed an axillary lymph node. Around the same time, Anna started having severe abdominal discomfort and swelling on the left side of her belly. Because of her history of the brain lesion, Anna made an appointment to get the lymph node and the swelling checked. A biopsy of the node was done, as well as a CT scan of the abdomen.
In May 2022, Anna’s CT scan revealed that she had a 25 cm mass on her left ovary. The results of the node biopsy was positive for metastatic ovarian cancer. In June 2022, Anna had a total hysterectomy and a lymphadenectomy of the affected lymph nodes. Anna is now at home recuperating from the surgery.
Because her cancer is metastatic, Anna will need to undergo chemotherapy to hopefully get rid of any cancer that may have travelled to other parts of the body.
Anna has a long road ahead of her and we are praying and hopeful that she will make a full recovery and beat this monster. She is currently unable to work as she focuses on getting better, so we’re pleading to all well wishers to help us take some of the strain off of her plate. She will need help with the mountain of medical bills that are piling up everyday, paying her bills, food, and getting to the hospital for her treatments.
