Recovery begins at Discovery
“When Life Knocks You Down, Get Back Up and Score Big”
This is a Wrestling Life Lesson that is near and dear to the Lundgren Family. For over a year, Kim and Chris’ son, Brooxton (more commonly known as BJ), has been knocked down but keeps getting back up.
Diagnosed with an eating disorder last year, BJ continues to battle the hardest fight of his life with his family and friends right by his side. But, BJ understands that this time… his battle isn’t on the mat.
Beginning treatment last year in Minneapolis and then again in St. Louis in early January, BJ is now continuing his recovery at The Center for Discovery in Tampa, Florida with his parents, brothers (Jaxson and Nixon), and even his faithful puppy (Tex) by his side each step of the way.
Understanding that BJ needed specialized treatment, Kim and Chris researched facilities throughout the U.S. to find the perfect fit that allowed a family-centered treatment and recovery plan. BJ is currently settling into a partial hospitalization program designed specifically for youth that will also provide intensive family therapy for the Lundgren family as a whole.
While there are treatment facilities closer, Kim and Chris decided that The Center for Discovery was the perfect fit for BJ and their entire family regardless of any obstacles. Knowing the ‘best medicine’ for BJ is to be surrounded by his family as he heals, the family will be temporarily relocating for 8-weeks to Tampa to continue down the path of recovery right next to their tough champ.
Unfortunately, this intensive treatment doesn’t come without a price. The costs associated with this specialized treatment are already compiling and temporarily relocating their family will be costly. From travel, lodging, and food to the actual treatment itself, the couple understands and accepts the continued growing costs knowing it is the best treatment for their son.
Living in West Union, the Lundgren family has always known how lucky they were to have such a wonderful community; however, during BJ’s journey, the family is overwhelmed and blessed by the support and love from community, friends, family, wrestling families, and even people they have never met as their 11-year-old bravely battles his recovery.
Wrestling, like life, is an individual sport, but BJ knows that teammates are important, and his ‘team’ continues to support and cheer him on from his corner with love, support, acceptance, and fundraising needs.
