In Loving Memory of Derek Stavem

Our community is experiencing an unimaginable loss with the sudden and unexpected passing of Derek Stavem, who suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday, June 27. Derek leaves behind his wife, Tracy, and their three young children, Linden, Mila, and Mackenzie.

Derek was a devoted husband, adored father, cherished son, caring brother, and supportive friend. He may have been recognized by his full, fiery red beard, but he was known for his “dad jokes,” his passion for board games, his karaoke and video gaming skills, his perpetual smile, and his ability to connect with everyone, kids and adults alike. Derek’s creativity made him a staple at his kids’ birthday parties, from narrating an interactive Dungeons and Dragons adventure, to leading a crafting session while wearing a tiara. He was beloved “Uncle Derek,” who treated all our children as his own.

Tracy and Derek have been pillars in our church and in our kids’ school, leading with faith, kindness, and generosity. They stop at nothing if it means helping out a friend, or even a complete stranger; they’re the first to volunteer, the first to mobilize. Their hearts and home (and van) were always open to their family and friends.

For all the love they have shown for our community, it's now our time to help them. As close friends of the family, we have created this GoFundMe for Tracy and their children as a means for our community to show our love and support for them.

Derek was the main provider for the family. His abrupt and unforeseen passing has therefore left not only a huge void in their lives, but also a significant financial strain. The proceeds from this fundraiser will help cover both immediate costs and ongoing needs, from the funeral, to daily expenses, to the children’s futures. By easing the financial burden, we can help provide Tracy with time and space to grieve and to start the healing process with her children. Our goal is to provide Tracy with a sense of stability and security as the family adjusts to a life without Derek.
