Cancer Fundraiser for Kyler
Donation protected
My name is Alexandra,
In March of 2023, my husband began having health issues including joint pain, lethargy, shortness of breath, rashes, abnormalities in labs.
After multiple ER visits, a week long hospitalization, primary care visits & visits to specialists we still had no answers, at all. He had been denied short term disability & was forced to return to work even though he was still feeling awful.
5-6 months later, after continuing to work through his health issues, while working to restore power to the many affected by hurricane Idalia, his symptoms ramped up. He became increasingly lethargic, was more short of breath and began having significant swelling in his lower extremities. Upon returning home (September 6th, 2023), I immediately suggested that he go to the ER, as a nurse my fear was some sort of cardiac complication. In the ER, he was again brushed off as being a healthy 26 year old with no real medical concerns. They suggested that the swelling was due to being on his feet for so long while on storm duty. After following up with his primary he was suggested to return to a rheumatologist again. That Friday after his appointment, I noticed that his lymph nodes on the left side of his neck were extremely swollen. He returned to the ER after the weekend, on his 27th birthday. He had a CT scan done which suggested the possibility of lymphoma. It was that day he was admitted. He had two biopsies done which confirmed the diagnosis of Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Upon follow up with Oncology he was sent for a PET Scan, bone marrow biopsy, Echocardiogram & port placement to begin chemo 4 days later.
Kyler was diagnosed with stage 3 Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He has been unable to return to work and has not qualified for short term disability. Kyler has lost 40+ pounds & his hair already. His latest PET scan determined that the chemo is working but he will require an additional 3 months of chemo, before having another scan, which will determine course of action.
This diagnosis came just 2 months shy of the one year anniversary of losing my father to his battle with cancer. In addition, I am currently 2/3 of the way through my transition to professional nursing (RN) program. I have been able to maintain working full time as a Licensed Practical Nurse, at a local community hospital, while continuing to succeed in school. However, my husband has been forced to be home due to the side effects of chemotherapy & the rigorous demands from his career.
Kyler is 27 years old, he is a father to our beautiful 4 year old daughter, a husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin. He is proud of the career he chose to become a lineman. Helping others at the expense of losing time at home with his family when others experience loss of power due to natural disaster.
During this difficult time we ask that you please consider donating to help with medical and life expenses associated with his diagnosis.
Thank you,
Alexandra
