Hi, I'm Macey, and I'm raising money to support BJ and Marius Hanford.

As many of you know, Marius was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and has been struggling with it for several years. As his condition worsens, it has become increasingly difficult for BJ to care for him on her own. And as we all know, asking for help has never been easy for her.

If you were to sit with Marius today, you’d still find the warm, talkative man we all love—but you would also notice that he no longer responds to questions, often talks at you rather than with you, and experiences delusions and frequent nightmares. He now requires full-time supervision.

BJ needs support and relief in her caregiving duties. She is lonely, overwhelmed, and exhausted as she navigates this rapid decline in her best friend and life partner. On top of that, she’s juggling insurance, managing their home and tenants, and handling all the day-to-day responsibilities by herself. The emotional and mental toll has been immense.

There are programs and opportunities for in-home support that would allow someone to stay with Marius a few times a week. This would give BJ much-needed time for self-care, errands, rest, and simply a moment to breathe.

The greatest challenge is the cost. Their income—primarily Social Security, their Equity (actor’s union) pensions, and Marius’s veteran’s pension—is simply not enough to cover the additional care and resources he now needs.
