Unsere Mama. Unsere Ehefrau. Unsere Freundin. Unsere geliebte Patricia – sie braucht Hilfe und das ganz schnell!

Wie kommt es dazu?

Seit einer schweren Gehirnblutung vor vier Jahren ist nichts mehr, wie es einmal war. Patricia hat plötzlich all das verloren, was vorher selbstverständlich war:

Sie kann nicht mehr sprechen, sich nicht bewegen, nicht selbst essen oder trinken. Sie ist an ihr Bett gefesselt.

Monatelang lag sie nach der Blutung auf der Intensivstation, zeitweise im Koma, halbseitig gelähmt, im stetigen Kampf ums Überleben. Lange war es ungewiss ob sie es schafft, ob sie jemals wieder aufwacht.

Aber sie hat es geschafft: Patricia lebt. Sie ist da. Sie fühlt. Sie reagiert. Sie kämpft – jeden Tag. Und wir kämpfen mit ihr – als Familie.

Nach all dem Ringen, den vielen Komplikationen und nervenzehrenden Wochen und Monaten im Krankenhaus dann die erschütternden Aussage in der Reha – "Schicken Sie sie ins Heim. Das wird eh nichts mehr. Die lebt nicht mehr lange, wir können nichts mehr für sie tun, wir brauchen die Betten." – für uns unvorstellbar. Mama ist immer noch ein Mensch, wenn auch gefangen in ihrem jetzt stark beeinträchtigtem Körper, sie ist ein Lebewesen mit Gefühlen und vor allem Würde, so wie jeder von uns! Es war ganz klar Mama gehört nach Hause, zu ihrer Familie wie früher.

Und das haben wir geschafft: Mama erhielt den Pflegegrad 5, den höchsten in Deutschland. Ihr steht somit eine medizinische Versorgung nicht nur zu, sondern ist für Patienten wie sie auch lebensnotwendig. Schnell haben wir unser Wohnzimmer in ein Pflegezimmer für sie umgewandelt – mit viel Einsatz, viel Liebe und einem festen Team von examinierten Intensivpflegekräften. Seit über drei Jahren ist Patricia nun zu Hause – rund um die Uhr medizinisch versorgt. Ihr geht es besser. Sie darf endlich wieder ankommen und ein menschenwürdigeres Leben führen.

Wie geht es ihr mittlerweile?

Patricia ist eine Beatmungspatientin. Sie lebt mit einer Trachealkanüle und wird künstlich ernährt. Ihre Atemwege müssen regelmäßig abgesaugt werden – andernfalls besteht akute Erstickungsgefahr. Sie ist auf 24-Stunden-Intensivpflege angewiesen. Moderne Überwachungsgeräte messen permanent ihre Werte – Herzfrequenz, Sauerstoff, Atmung – um bei Notfällen sofort eingreifen zu können.

Ohne dieses Netzwerk aus medizinischer Hilfe, technischer Überwachung, professioneller Therapie und menschlicher Nähe wäre Patricia nicht mehr am Leben. Und auch keine Fortschritte wären möglich gewesen. Nun zeigt sie aber durch ihren enormen Ehrgeiz und Willen, dass sie weiter leben möchte. Kleine Verbesserung sind immer wieder möglich. Auch wenn sie sich nicht ausdrücken kann, verfügt sie über emotionale Reaktionen. Kann sich mittlerweile mit dem linken Arm etwas bemerkbar machen und manchmal sogar unglaublich süss lächeln.

Helft uns dieses Lächeln am Leben zu halten und irgendwann wieder zu einem Lachen werden zu lassen!

Und jetzt? Was ist passiert?

Die letzten Jahre hat Mamas internationale Krankenversicherung diese notwendige Versorgung standesgemäß bezahlt - in Deutschland ganz selbstverständlich und rechtlich festgelegt. Doch jetzt der plötzliche Schock: völlig überraschend und ohne nachvollziehbare Begründung wurde uns am 24. Juni mitgeteilt:

Ab dem 1. Juli 2025 werden alle Zahlungen eingestellt! Eine Woche und dann ist alles aus!

Keine Übergangsfrist. Keine Lösung. Kein Mitgefühl. Keine Menschlichkeit. Kein Recht. Wir waren sprachlos, geschockt und sind verzweifelt. Auch der versorgende Arzt und die Pflegefirma haben so etwas noch nie erlebt. Die gleiche Reaktion von jedem "Aber das geht doch gar nicht! Das kann man nicht machen. Wir sind doch in Deutschland!“. Laut der internationalen Krankenversicherung geht das wohl schon. Sie wollen von einem Pflegegrad noch nie etwas gehört hat, ignorieren Arztberichte, Gutachten und jegliche Kommunikation. Sie wissen das unsere Mutter durch diese Fehlentscheidung sterben würde, aber möchten den Weg trotzdem gehen. Ein Skandal!

Was bedeutet das jetzt für uns?

Ab sofort müssten wir die lebensnotwendige medizinische Pflege im hohen fünfstelligen Bereich pro Monat selbst finanzieren – und zwar sehr kurzfristig! Das ist für uns als kleine Familie schlicht nicht möglich.

Natürlich kämpfen wir – juristisch, organisatorisch, mit allem, was wir haben. Aber das braucht Zeit. Und in dieser Zeit steht alles auf dem Spiel.

Helft uns jetzt, unsere Mama in den nächsten Wochen weiter versorgen zu können, damit sie weiterleben kann. Der 01.07. ist schon bald und wenn die medizinische Versorgung dann endet, wird Mama wenige Tage später versterben. Es klingt so hart und unwirklich, aber es ist leider wirklich so. Mit jeder Spende können wir hoffentlich mehr Zeit überbrücken, um eine Lösung zu finden.

Wir sind verzweifelt und wenden uns daher an euch alle, jeder da draußen kann einen kleinen Unterschied machen. Jede Spende hilft. Jeder Euro zählt.

❤️ Please Help Us Keep Patricia Alive

Our mom. Our wife. Our friend. Our beloved Patricia – she needs help. And she needs it urgently.

What happened?

Four years ago, Patricia suffered from a severe brain hemorrhage. Since that day, nothing has been the same. She suddenly lost everything we take for granted: She can no longer speak, move, eat, or drink on her own.

She spent months in intensive care, at times in a coma, partially paralyzed, constantly fighting for her life. For a long time, it was unclear whether she would survive – or ever wake up again.

But she did. Patricia is alive. She is present. She feels. She responds. She fights – every single day. And we fight alongside her – as a family.

After all the suffering, complications, and exhausting months in the hospital, we were hit with a devastating statement during her rehab:

“Send her to a care home. There’s no point. She won’t live much longer. We can’t do anything for her. We need the beds.” Unimaginable for us.

Our mom is still a person – even if she is now trapped in a severely impaired body, she is a human being with feelings – and above all, dignity. Just like any one of us!

So for us, it was clear: Mom belongs at home, with her family and we made it happen. Patricia was officially given care level 5, the highest level of care in Germany – not only granting her the right to medical care, but making it absolutely essential for her survival.

We transformed our living room into a care room – with all our effort, love, and a dedicated team of certified intensive care nurses. For more than three years now, Patricia has been living at home – professionally taken care of and much loved. She’s doing better. She’s finally home. And she’s able to live a life with more dignity.

What is her condition today?

Patricia is ventilator-dependent. She breathes through a tracheostomy and is fed artificially. Her airways must be suctioned regularly – otherwise, she faces the risk of suffocating.

She depends on 24-hour intensive care. Advanced monitoring devices track her heart rate, oxygen levels, and breathing – so medical staff can react immediately in an emergency.

Without this network of medical care, technical equipment, therapy, and human connection, Patricia would not be alive today. And without it, she could make no further progress. Yet she continues to show us her incredible will to live. She still can’t speak, but she reacts emotionally. She can now move her left arm slightly – and sometimes even gives us an incredibly sweet smile. Please help us keep that smile alive – and one day turn it into laughter again.

And now? What happened?

For the past few years, Patricia’s international health insurance covered the cost of this essential care – as is rightfully required by law in Germany, especially in cases as severe as hers.

But now, completely out of the blue and without any clear explanation, we received a letter on June 24 stating:

As of July 1. 2025, all payments will be stopped.

We were given one week notice.

No transition period. No solution. No empathy. No humanity. No legal basis. Nothing.

We were speechless, shocked, and devastated. Even Patricia’s physician and our care provider have never seen anything like this.

Everyone reacts the same way: “This can’t be real. This is not allowed. This is inhumane.” But the insurance company – which pretends to have never even heard of Germany’s care levels – has decided otherwise. They know full well that their decision will result in our mother’s death, but still they are choosing to cut costs for the sake of the humanitarian organization behind them.

What does that mean?

It means we would now have to suddenly pay tens of thousands of euros per month to keep our mom alive. And we simply can’t.

We are a small family – and this is far beyond our means.

Of course, we are fighting – legally, organizationally, with everything we’ve got. But that takes time. And we don’t have time.

That’s why we are reaching out to you with all our hearts.

Please, help us keep our mom alive.

Help us cover her care over the next few weeks – so she can remain in the only place where she is safe: At home. With us. With love.

If her care ends on July 1, Patricia will pass away just days later.

It sounds harsh and unbelievable – but sadly, it’s the truth.
