Bits' Seizures

In December 2017, Bits @bitsthefrenchie had his first seizure episode. As the days went on, he had more seizures on a weekly basis along with a couple of overnight stays at the ER due to cluster seizures. We started him on a low dosage of Keppra but it didn’t work and kept upping the dosage. With some of his seizures, he recovers quickly with no behavioral change. Because of this and since he’s young, his neurologist gave us his medical opinion to not move forward with an MRI since he believes it would tell us nothing. As parents, we wanted to get to the bottom of it and moved forward with it for a peace of mind. Nothing was flagged in the MRI… so he was diagnosis with idiopathic tremors. To help Bits, we’ve changed his diet to a raw diet, gave him his anti-seizure meds and gave him CBD oil (we’ve heard from numerous of people that it’s been working so well for their dogs). He’s been doing well since Feb… having seizures every 3-5 weeks which is what we were aiming for…

On the night of Wednesday, May 30th, he had a relapse with his seizures and had them every other minute for a half hour or so. We had no choice but to bring him to our emergency vet because seizures shouldn’t exceed for more than 5 minutes. At the vet, the doctors managed to stop his seizures and he had to stay overnight for observation and testing. It was reported his body temperature was really high when we first brought him in but managed to cool down. This morning (5/31), we received an update that he’s had two seizures while hospitalized. He will have to stay overnight at the vet again. His chest X-rays indicated pneumonia due to all the drool getting into his lungs and he’s still on the oxygen for assistance. We’re hoping he continues to get better while he’s there.. we know he’s in great care. He's been doing good maintaining the frequency of seizures but his episode last night was a tough and constant one.

We’ve been hit with his high overnight Vet bills. Because he’s been there so many times, our insurance won’t cover additional costs since we’ve maxed out it for the year already. We hate doing this but if you guys can help in any way, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys for reading and for your love and support. It means the world to us and Bits. We love this lil nugget so much.
