Sergio Auvert is a stroke survivor and is known as Bito. He is married to his high school sweetheart Yrama; they've been together for more than 50 years and she is currently his caretaker. He is a father of four - Sergio Enrique, Joanna, Jennifer, and Jackely - and grandfather of six teenagers. He has always been a great husband, father and friend - loved and admired by many. Throughout his life, Bito developed plaque in the artery that carries blood from his heart to his brain, and on April 1st, 2011, he suffered a major ischemic stroke that affected both his cognitive abilities and his movement, and left him unable to speak.

On July 8, 2019, Bito suffered a second stroke and is currently hospitalized. This stroke affected his ability to swallow and so he is unable to eat. He is currently being fed through a tube in his stomach. The doctors believe that with intense therapy Bito can regain his ability to swallow. The good news is they have identified movement in his glands, which have reacted to the swallowing of a small amount of fluids. He is scheduled to be transferred to a stroke care unit to go through the therapy required to fully recuperate and regain the ability to eat and swallow. A very important point of his therapy is to train Bito to swallow his own saliva as soon as possible to prevent these fluids from going to his lungs to avoid the risk of pneumonia.

Here is where we need your help! The doctors are recommending special occupational and speech therapy. To have a higher chance of success, it has to be frequent sessions and as soon as possible before the swallowing muscles turn lazy and become paralyzed permanently. Unfortunately, Bito's current insurance does not cover much of the cost of therapy. Please help us raise the funds to get Bito into a therapy center to get him the help he so desperately needs and the opportunity to regain the basic human ability of eating normally.

Sergio Auvert es un sobreviviente de un derrame cerebral y es conocido como Bito. Está casado con su novia de secundaria, Yrama; Han estado juntos por más de 50 años y actualmente es la que se encarga de su cuidado. Es padre de cuatro hijos, Sergio Enrique, Joanna, Jennifer y Jackely, y abuelo de seis adolescentes. Siempre ha sido un gran esposo, padre y amigo, querido y admirado por muchos. A lo largo de su vida, Bito desarrolló una placa en la arteria que lleva la sangre desde su corazón hasta su cerebro, y el 1 de abril de 2011, sufrió un ataque cerebral isquémico significativo que afectó un poco sus habilidades cognitiva, y lo dejó incapacitado para hablar.

El 8 de julio de 2019, Bito sufrió un segundo accidente cerebrovascular y actualmente está hospitalizado. Este ultimo ACV afectó su capacidad de tragar y por lo tanto no puede comer. Actualmente está siendo alimentado a través de un tubo en su estómago. Los médicos creen que con terapia intensa Bito puede recuperar su capacidad de tragar. La buena noticia es que han identificado movimiento en sus glándulas, las cuales han reaccionado a la deglución de una pequeña cantidad de líquidos. Se esta planificando transferir a Bito a una unidad de atención de apoplejía para recibir la terapia que necesita para recuperarse de este ultimo accidente cerebrovascular y recuperar la capacidad de comer y tragar. Un punto muy importante de su terapia es el de capacitar a Bito de que pueda tragar cuanto antes su propia saliva para evitar que ese fluido se vaya a sus pulmones previniendo el riesgo de una neumonía. 


¡Aquí es donde necesitamos de tu ayuda! Los médicos están recomendando terapia ocupacional y del habla especial. Para tener una mayor probabilidad de éxito, deben ser sesiones frecuentes y tan pronto como sea posible antes de que los músculos de la deglución se pongan perezosos y se paralicen permanentemente. Desafortunadamente, el seguro actual de Bito no cubre gran parte del costo de la terapia. Ayúdenos a recaudar fondos para llevar a Bito a un centro de terapia donde el pueda obtener la ayuda que necesita tan desesperadamente y la oportunidad de recuperar la capacidad básica de un ser humano como es comer normalmente.

Para que esto sea una posibilidad para Bito, debemos costear los costos del centro de rehabilitación que la aseguradora no cubre y que se estima en $35,000 para cubrir las terapias que el necesita. Como familia no tenemos esta cantidad de dinero; por lo tanto, siempre estaremos agradecidos con todos ustedes por su donación.
