Bishop Seabury, Building a Future

Who we are…

Bishop Seabury Anglican Church, established in 1875, is a vibrant community of Christ followers seeking to know Jesus and make Him known.

Part of our story…

Formerly at home in Groton, Connecticut, Bishop Seabury became affiliated with the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) in 2007. Even though, as part of that move, we were unable to remain in our worship space or maintain any working capital, we have remained a faithful and close-knit family. For a brief period of time, the we held our services in a local hotel until the Lord led us to worship in a former public school in Gales Ferry, Connecticut.

What is happening now...

We have never wavered in our search for a permanent dedicated worship space and a house of prayer while being prayerfully mindful of where the Lord is leading us. During this time, we have faithfully met all of our obligations and established a building fund campaign to purchase a new home. In about the last six months, the Lord has begun to lead us from the public school into a property that previously served as home to the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry. Being faithful to where the Lord is leading us, we are actively pursuing its purchase and are very excited and enthusiastic to convert the building from a retail space back to a sacred house of worship.

The Costs…

While we have met the purchase price, there are moving costs above and beyond the cost of purchasing the building. We must bring this property into compliance for use as a church again. We specifically need to replace the septic system, install an elevator, make the restrooms ADA compliant, acquire new pews or chairs, and other code compliance items. The estimated cost of these projects is approximately $73,000. Any contributions in excess of the target will be used for general repairs and upgrades to the sanctuary, Christian education classrooms, and kitchen.

How you Can Help…

With your help, today, we can begin this work. If you can only imagine the joy of putting down roots and worshiping in a sacred space again.  Every dollar you bless us with will be used to build the church in us. God is doing a good work, please join us in this new exciting journey.
