Hi my name is Anne-Marie and I’m hoping to raise funds towards our much loved family member Bishop the Dobermans vet costs after a nasty slip resulted in him having a large leg break.

As I’m sure, many animal lovers out there know the already expensive cost of monthly insurance and we all pray that we will never have to use it. This weekend we realised that sadly it would be needed, but we didn’t have close to the insurance cover needed, despite the level of cover we pay for.

After rushing Bishop to the vets after his slip, X-rays revealed the extent of the break and resulting in him having to be admitted to the emergency vet hospital to mange his pain and prepare him for surgery and his post recovery. The surgery will involve a bone biopsy to ensure there is no underlying lying cause for such a large break and plates and a bone marrow graft to help with the healing. He will then need up to 3 nights post op stay and care at the vet hospital to recover before he can come home.

After being quoted an estimate of around £8300, we realised that the insurance policy would only pay out up to £4000 of that as well as a policy of 20% of that payment to be our responsibility due to his age.

Being the primary carer for one of my disabled twins, I am no longer able to work a full time job, so budgeting as family is already difficult. Knowing that we now to find up to £5100 ourselves to cover what the insurance can’t, my heart sank. There was no way I could refuse the care needed for our loving and amazing boy. So having managed to scrape together all we can, £3000 we are still a way off what is needed.

I am really hoping that this will help us to reach the total needed and ensure Bishop gets the best surgery and care needed to get him home to his human brothers and me where he belongs.
