The exchange program will include Bishop students traveling to Spain for one week in March 2018 and students from Spain visiting for two weeks in June 2018. All students will be hosted in family homes so they can be fully immersed in the culture.
Bishop Elementary is a kindergarten through 5th-grade elementary school in Lincoln Consolidated School district. This diverse public school offers a multi-age learning environment and also houses the only Spanish Immersion program in Washtenaw County. All elementary students in the district currently take an hour of Spanish once per week, with the exception of the approximately 120 Bishop students who are in the Spanish Immersion program which gives the students an opportunity to learn in Spanish every day through their elementary years.
At this point, we are trying to raise funds for a small exchange this school year. If we exceed our goal, funds will be used for next year's larger exchange trip.
Monetary donations will be used to assist in:
+ Travel (both international travel and local travel for activities)
+ Fun and educational experiences with the students from Spain while they are in Ypsilanti
+ Logistical items such as funding for a substitute teacher to cover the chaperoning teacher’s class while they go to Spain, t-shirts, student meals, etc.
Bishop Elementary School has approximately 53% participation in the Free and Reduced Lunch program, which speaks to the need of our population. We would like to offer this valuable experience to all interested students regardless of financial resources.
Can you help us meet this need? We thank you in advance for any help you wish to provide.
