For those who don’t know us, Biscotti is my 2 year old Goldendoodle who is my absolute soul dog.
Just weeks after her second birthday (Feb 2025), she was diagnosed with Primary Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP), which is an autoimmune disorder where the dog's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets, essential for blood clotting. At the time of her initial emergency visit, she had zero platelets present in her body, which is critical.
Since then, she has been on a variety of medications, most recently has been Cerenia, Sucralfate, Prednisone, and Cyclosporine modified, just to name a few. In addition to medications, we take her multiple times a month to get bloodwork done to monitor her platelet levels. She was so close to remission but unfortunately relapsed.
We recently found rapid growing masses under her armpits (almost the size of my fist), which sparked a round of tests that we’re waiting to hear back on and she has started an antibiotic. On top of this, she has frequent vomiting episodes (often with blood) that require veterinary care, additional testing and procedures.
As you can imagine, these visits add up financially and aren’t going anywhere any time soon, as her condition is most likely life-long and she will need long-term medication and visits. On average, vet care and medications are costing close to $1000 a month. Additional visits (such as the mass we found and all testing associated) also come at a pretty penny, with our most recent visits totally more than $1300 for just one week.
I have never been someone who asks for money, and never thought I’d have to make something like this. My boyfriend and I both work full time, and I work two jobs. We have looked into pet insurance but unfortunately it doesn’t cover any of this because it is considered pre-existing. We truly do everything we can to provide to her as best we can. However, we can’t deny how much this has affected us financially. We would do absolutely anything for her, as she is my heart dog… truly.
Any donation, no matter how small is truly so appreciated and if you can’t donate, we appreciate prayers and good wishes and hope that you will share Biscotti’s story. She is the happiest, sweetest 2 year old pup with the biggest heart and so much life ahead of her that she deserves to live.
For anyone who’d like to follow along on her progress and journey or get to know Biscotti better, she has an Instagram @biscotti_the_doodle where we make health updates often and share details about her and her life. If you’d like to learn more about her condition and symptoms feel free to DM the account and we are happy to connect.
Thank you for the endless love and support. We are so grateful!
Love, Biscotti’s Mom (Kelsey)
