I'm Whitson Crynes, a Film and Video Production student at the Oklahoma City Community College and Bewilderment in Silence is my thesis/capstone project.
Bewilderment in Silence is a story about a young woman’s struggle with emotional dissonance and her journey to understanding the abstraction of contentment.
The Goal:
Goal of this project is to create a short film to submit to festivals and submit as my capstone/thesis project.
The Urgency:
We have three weeks to raise the necessary funds and two weeks to film it.
The story / What's it all about?
After an argument with her boyfriend, Jay, Kate realizes that she is dissatisfied with life. While attempting to understand the reasons for living she receives a rejection letter for her summer internship sending her into a dissonant spiral.
To maintain a grip on the reality around her Kate opens up a flowing dialogue with her conscious in an effort to justify existence and purpose. During this process she comes to realize her dependency on others to validate her existence. As Kate finally arrives at a point of stasis Jay breaks things off with her through a cold phone call from Chicago. Falling into a mire of a depression she once again returns to her dissonant existential crisis.
After a brief moment of madness Kate attempts to distract herself from her cognitive plight as she stands more distant and lost than before.
A note from Writer / Director
Bewilderment in Silence is a story that expresses psychological and social issues that I myself am quite intimate with. The story of Kate in this sense is autobiographical as this film is an attempt to represent the way that I see and experience the world. Kate’s journey represents the struggle of the rising youth coming to terms with the world outside the class room.
Why am I making this film?
As a film student at the Oklahoma City Community College it is required that one make a capstone or thesis film project before they can graduate. This “requirement” is an opportunity to tell one of the many stories I have inside of me. I chose this particular script because for me the story represents the transitioning time in my life that brought me into the world of filmmaking.
The Crew

I am a Film and Video Production student at the Oklahoma City Community College. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to work on several short films and develop my skills in lighting and cinematography.
Director of Photography – Kili Lyons
Kili Lyons is a photography student at the University of Arizona with an eye for composition and a passion for art.
Art Director - Reese Baker
Reese Baker is a developing artist in the Oklahoma filmmaking community who has worked on several short films and taken part in numerous local film festivals.
Actress - Sandy Marin
Sandy Marin is a Tucson based musician that will be acting in the film as well as aiding in composing the score for the film.
Actress - Ellie Boyles

Other ways you can help
There are always other ways you can help out beyond funding. An important aspect of creating a film is the food services. As we will be filming long days in the summer heat it is important to make sure that the cast and crew are well fed and well hydrated. Contributions of food and water are greatly appreciated and will help to protect our team from the risks of heat stress.
Additionally if you are unable to support this endeavour financialy, you can always be of assistance by spreading the word and getting the campaign out there.

UPDATES:
During the last two weeks we were able to film all 62 scenes as well as record all voice over dialogue for the film. In the a few weeks we will begin the editing process and start piecing the film together. After the final cut has been assembled I will be going to Texas to work with the composer on the score for the film. Until then, please enjoy a few photos from our shoot!
