When I came home from work on Friday night, my sweet bunny, Ollie, had an enlarged eye. There is no nighttime emergency vet care for rabbits here. We went to Makawao daytime walk-in care on Saturday morning and had about a $600 visit for 6 medications to hope the swelling goes down.
By day 3, the medicine was not helping; his eye was still enlarged. My vet called me and told me to come in immediately. I was able to leave work and head up there. He got an exam and eye pressure test to rule out glaucoma, which was normal. The next step is enucleation (removal of the eye), which is a $1300 surgery here in Hawaii. My vet let me know that this is just the beginning, depending on what they find behind the eye upon removal. A tumor is a possibility.
I financially can't afford this, so I went to our humane society on the island to ask if they offer any kind of financial help or if I could surrender him and then re-adopt so he can get the care he needs. Unfortunately, due to the situation, they would not be able to help him. So, I'm figuring out how to pay out of pocket for this. After all the emergency visits and glaucoma testing, I have already spent well over $850. My paycheck was $750.
We would appreciate even just $5. My birthday is today Feb 11th, and all I want for my birthday is for my Ollie to be in good health and survive this surgery.
