On July 1st the Woolverton's were told that a MRI had found an aggressive tumor in the left arm bone of their 12 year old daughter, Alexis. They have had a very scary few weeks since then. All signs were pointing to osteosarcoma, a rare and sometimes lethal bone cancer. Treatment has been taking place at Wake Forest, a 4 hour drive from their home and Alexis has been through so many scans, IVs, and a surgical biopsy already. She's made everyone proud with her faith and bravery throughout it all.
By the grace of God, Alexis does not have osteosarcoma!!! The biopsy returned and she has Langerhans cell histiocytosis. While it is technically benign, it mimics cancer and is a rare and scary disorder. Alexis still has lots scans and treatment ahead of her but her prognosis and treatment options are far better with this diagnosis.
Alexis turns 13 on August 1st and I'm asking for everyone's help to make it the best birthday ever for her!! I can't think of a sweeter girl who deserves it more. The Woolverton's have a tradition of taking their girls on a trip for their 13th birthday. Alexis originally wanted to do Pigeon Forge and Dollywood but since she can't currently ride rides she has chosen to go to her favorite city.... St. Augustine, FL.
Let's make sure Alexis and her family have a great time and are able to make special memories before she begins whatever treatment the doctors decide. I know showering her with love right now would really make her feel special, and she deserves that.
