Hi my name is Katie and I am fundraising for the Birmingham children’s hospital,my son Max is taking part in a 31 mile summer challenge through August. This charity is close to our hearts. At just 2years of age my son Max was taken ill and was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure and was so poorly he was in the children’s for 4months in intensive care and on renal ward. He has been in and out of hospital for the past 5 years of his life.He was on diyalsis 4 times a week for 4hours. Then in May 2022 we had the phone call we were dreaming of and that was that the hospital had found him a match for a new kidney. The operation was a success but we had a few blips along the way his kidney started to reject but the amazing doctors/nurses and surgeon managed to work there magic and stop Maxs body from rejecting the kidney with medication. It was a few hard months for us all more admissions for Max, with other complications high BP, infections, trouble breathing which max needed oxygen, severe headaches which then we were told fluid was building up on to his brain and there was a slight bleed but again they worked hard and operated again on Max and helped reduce it all and stop the severe headaches. So we just want to give something back as if it wasn’t for the amazing staff max would not be here with us. Max is now thriving and doing everything a 7year old should be doing.
