Our team of Emerson College Student Filmmakers is undertaking an independent student project called Birds In Glass Houses. Entirely self-fundraised, we are looking for financial contributions to help us bring this story to life!

Birds In Glass Houses is a coming of age drama that features themes of isolation, growing up queer in a small minded town, discovering forgiveness for self and others, and searching for salvation from the growing pains of life. The story takes place at a party in the rural midwest. When the function is busted by the cops, a troubled girl, Max, must hide with Jack, the person she hates most in the world.

The title of the film describes the metaphor of birds in glass houses flying towards what they think is the sky, only to slam into glass. This film is about teenage-hood, and the endless search for freedom. Oftentimes, when teenagers seek what they think is freedom, usually solace in other people, it backfires and ends up hurting them. As if they too were searching for the open sky but instead found hard, restrictive glass.

This story is extremely personal. It aims to tell a realistic portrayal of coming of age, rather than the romanticized rom-coms we see today. Our hope is that viewers find it relatable, and find comfort in the uncomfortable truths of growing up.
