BirdLady Drin's Baby Bird Fund- Rare Complication

Donation protected
Hello, friends!

After over a year of trying, in January 2022, lovebirds Adrianne (Drin) and Paul discovered they were finally expecting their first baby! Excited, terrified, and full of hope, the pregnancy progressed without any real complications. All seemed well!

However, on Drin's routine 20-week ultrasound scan, doctors noted and later confirmed she has the rare and potentially catastrophic pregnancy complication - Vasa Previa.

With Vasa Previa, Baby's blood vessels that connect to the umbilical cord lie across the opening of the cervix—the entrance to the birth canal. As a result, the baby may hemorrhage during delivery because these vessels will rupture. If bleeding is severe, the baby may die, and Drin may have complications from massive blood loss. Vasa Previa is present in about 1 in 2,500 to 5,000 deliveries.

What can be done:
  • Doctors will hospitalize Drin around 30 to 32 weeks of pregnancy or sooner, so she and the baby can be closely monitored.
  • Drin will be given steroid injections to help the baby's lungs grow.
  • C-SECTION IS MANDATORY!!!
  • The C-section will be done around 35 weeks, which means Baby will be a premie!
  • Baby will likely spend time in the NICU.

Thankfully, this complication was diagnosed early, so the survival rate for Drin and Baby is high with proper management. Without diagnoses or management, this complication usually results in death. Phew, good thing they caught it!

Unfortunately, Paul was recently laid off, and Drin will not have a job to return to after the baby arrived. They will have nothing.

As first-time parents in this dire situation, this is extrememly stressful, scary, and earth-shattering. With all the specialist appointments, hospital visits, prolonged hospital stay, gas to drive back and forth, and knowing the baby will be in the NICU, not to mention any remaining emergencies, the emotional and financial burden is beyond overwhelming.

For these reasons, Drin is rallying for your much-needed help - It would be a massive weight off the new parents' shoulders and allow them to enjoy their baby bird without the fears of finacial instability while trying to get back on their feet. It doesn't matter how much you can give, so please lend a hand however possible, whether that's $10, $20, $100, or $1000, anything and everything helps tremendously.

More than words can express, we appreciate your support. I will provide updates as they come!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

-Drin
